Twitter/X has a 280 character limit per tweet. That is a hard rule and Rooli works around it in two smart ways. You can post a single short tweet or build a full thread without ever leaving your Rooli dashboard.
This guide shows you exactly how to do both, step by step.
Before You Start
Make sure your Twitter/X account is connected to Rooli. To check, go to Social Accounts in the sidebar and confirm your X account shows as connected. If it is not connected yet, click the link icon next to X and follow the authorization steps.
💡 Note: Connecting Twitter/X requires a paid Rooli plan. If you see a lock icon next to X in Social Accounts, upgrade your plan at rooli.co/pricing to unlock it.
How to Post a Single Tweet on Twitter/X Using Rooli
A single tweet is any post that fits within 280 characters. Here is how to create and schedule one:
Step 1: Open the Create New Post panel
On mobile, tap the dark + button at the top of your screen or tap the + next to any day on the calendar. On desktop, click the Create Post button in your dashboard.
Step 2: Write your tweet in the Content field
Type your tweet in the Content box under the Compose tab. Keep an eye on the character counter at the bottom right of the content field. It shows you exactly how many characters you have used out of 280. For example, 278/280 means you have used 278 characters and have 2 left.
Step 3: Watch for the thread warning
If your content goes over 280 characters, Rooli will show an orange warning that reads: Twitter content is being sliced into threads. Use content override for more control. This means your post is too long for a single tweet. Either shorten it to stay under 280 characters, or use the Twitter Threads feature covered below.
Step 4: Add media if needed
Scroll down to the Media section and upload your image or video. You can upload up to 5 files, each up to 8MB. Drag to reorder them if you are uploading more than one.
Step 5: Select your Twitter/X account under Publish to
Scroll down to the Publish to section. You will see all your connected accounts listed. Select your X account. You can also select other platforms like Instagram and TikTok at the same time if you want to publish the same content across multiple platforms.
Step 6: Set your timezone and schedule
Rooli automatically sets your timezone to West Africa Time (WAT). Confirm this is correct, then click the Schedule At field and choose your preferred date and time.
Step 7: Click Schedule Post
Hit Schedule Post and your tweet will go live automatically at the time you set.
How to Post a Twitter Thread Using Rooli
A Twitter thread is a series of connected tweets posted one after the other. Threads are great for sharing longer thoughts, tutorials, story-driven content, or anything that needs more than 280 characters to explain.
Rooli has a dedicated Twitter Threads section built directly into the post creation flow. Here is how to use it:
Step 1: Open the Create New Post panel
Follow the same steps as above to open the post creation panel.
Step 2: Write your first tweet in the Content field
This becomes the opening tweet of your thread. Keep it under 280 characters and make it strong. Your first tweet is what people see first and what determines whether they read the rest.
Step 3: Scroll down to the Twitter Threads section
Below the Override Content section you will find Twitter Threads. The label reads: Thread only works with Twitter. You will see Thread 1 already created with its own content box and media upload area.
Step 4: Write the content for Thread 1
Type the second tweet of your thread into the Thread 1 content box. Each thread box has its own 280 character limit and its own media upload field, so you can attach different images or videos to different tweets in the same thread.
Step 5: Add more tweets to your thread
Click the + Add Thread button to add more tweets. Each one gets its own numbered box, Thread 2, Thread 3, and so on. Add as many as your thread needs. You can delete any individual thread by clicking the red bin icon next to it.
Step 6: Select your X account and schedule
Scroll down to Publish to and select your X account. Set your timezone and Schedule At date and time. Click Schedule Post.
Rooli will publish each thread tweet in sequence automatically at the time you set, creating a complete thread on your Twitter/X profile without you needing to be online.
💡 Pro Tip: Use the Override Content feature if you want your Twitter post to say something different from what you are posting on Instagram or TikTok at the same time. Click Add Segment next to Override Content, select Twitter/X, and write a custom version just for that platform.
Frequently Asked Questions
What happens if my tweet goes over 280 characters?
Rooli will show an orange warning that says Twitter content is being sliced into threads. This means the post is too long for a single tweet. You can either shorten your content to stay under 280 characters, or use the Twitter Threads section to split it into a proper thread.
Can I add images or videos to individual tweets in a thread?
Yes. Each thread in Rooli has its own media upload field. You can attach a different image or video to each tweet in your thread, up to 1 file per thread tweet.
Can I post to Twitter and other platforms at the same time?
Yes. In the Publish to section, select your X account along with your Instagram, TikTok, or any other connected account. Rooli will publish to all selected platforms at the same scheduled time. Use Override Content if you want different copy for different platforms.
Does Rooli post my thread in the correct order?
Yes. Rooli publishes each thread tweet in numbered sequence, Thread 1 first, then Thread 2, Thread 3 and so on, maintaining the correct order of your thread automatically.
Is Twitter/X available on all Rooli plans?
Twitter/X requires a paid Rooli plan. If you see a lock icon next to X in your Social Accounts section, head to rooli.co/pricing to upgrade.
